Skyview in Stockholm
June 26, 2019
On Wednesday morning we left for Stockholm, about 125 miles from Örebro. We opted not to do a stop along the way for an early lunch so soon after the breakfast buffet at the hotel. We were too early to get into our rooms when we checked in, so we stored our luggage and the handbells, etc., in their basement storage areas. On the way the driver had pointed out the major sports and entertainment complex. He said that he would be going back by there, so he offered to drop any of us off who wanted to go. Don and I and the Browns took him up on it.
Skyview is a sphere large enough to be seen from miles away. It turned out that there were no tours of the interior. Bob Dylan would have a concert there that night. What you could do is to ride in a glass gondola to the top, so we did that.
It began to rain, so I didn't get great pictures. I wasn't paying that much attention to shooting, so I just let the auto-focus make the raindrops on the glass very clear, to the detriment of the distant focus. But you can get an idea of what we could see during the ride.
The fuzzy white blob you see across the way is their soccer stadium. The roof opens and closes. I wish I had got a good picture.
After the ride we wandered around a bit in the shopping mall there and then decided to check out the restaurants. We settled on McDonald's. Tom found a cab for us to ride back to the hotel, and we got our stuff and settled into the rooms. Later Don sent me numerous texts, but somehow I missed them. He was at the Grand Hotel and was meeting Kevin and Cindy for dinner. By the time he reached me, I had fifteen minutes to get there, which would have been doable if I had already figured out the public transportation. I was still full from McDonald's anyway, so I passed on the opportunity. But I appreciated his effort to include me.
