Rocky Mountaineer

Kamloops to Jasper, July 24, 2010

After a night in hotels in Kamloops, we re-boarded the train to head for Jasper for two nights, with a full day of touring the area on the 25th. As we left Kamloops, we passed St. Joseph's Church, built in the late nineteenth century by Catholic missionaries and members of the local tribe they came to convert. The story goes that the cemetery is mostly empty. The priests told the people it was wrong to cremate their dead and had them buried instead. At night the locals would dig up the bodies for cremation.

After Kamloops we mostly saw mountain scenery. This day our car was the front observation car, so we could look and take pictures through the front windows and over the top of the train.
