Claremore

That afternoon we made it to the Will Rogers museum, set on a scenic hill on the north end of town. My parents counted his death as one of the great losses for our country. They were teenagers at the time.

The museum has artifacts from different parts of his life and shows some of his movies and videos of other performances. One could spend a fair amount of time there. Below are pictures of his boyhood saddle, his typewriter, and a recreation of his study in his California home.

We then drove out into the country to visit his birthplace. The house has been moved up the hill from its original site to make way for the lake. He was born in the bedroom that is pictured. None of the furnishings are original to the house, but are typical of the period.

It was supper time, so we headed back to a home-cooking restaurant we had seen back in town. We spent the night in a recently opened La Quinta Inn that was really nice.
